About the BMW M3 CSL E46
The E46 M3 CSL (Coupé Sport Leichtbau) is widely considered the finest M3 ever produced, focusing on radical weight reduction and sharpened dynamics. It shed 110kg over the standard M3 through the use of a carbon-fibre roof, a thin-walled exhaust, and a stripped-out interior featuring fixed-back bucket seats. The S54 engine was enhanced with high-lift camshafts and a massive carbon-fibre airbox that produces a legendary induction roar. Available only with the SMG II automated manual transmission, it was a track-focused special that famously lapped the Nürburgring in 7 minutes 50 seconds.

BMW M3 CSL E46 fun facts
- The CSL was the first production BMW M car to feature a carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) roof, a technology now standard on most M models.
- To save weight, the car was sold without a radio or air conditioning as standard, though they could be added back as no-cost options.
- The boot lid features a distinct integrated 'ducktail' spoiler made of sheet moulding compound, designed to reduce rear lift without a heavy wing.
