About the Ferrari 328

The Ferrari 328 GTS represents the final and most polished evolution of the transverse mid-engine V8 platform that began with the 308. Introduced at the 1985 Frankfurt Motor Show, it featured a larger 3.2-litre 'Quattrovalvole' engine and softened Pininfarina styling with integrated body-coloured bumpers. It is widely regarded by collectors as one of the most reliable and usable classic Ferraris, as its engine can be serviced without being removed from the car. The GTS remains the more popular variant, offering an open-air targa experience paired with the iconic gated manual shifter.

Ferrari 328 fun facts

  • The 328 was the last Ferrari model to feature a transverse engine layout for its mainstream V8 production line.
  • Unlike many of its contemporaries, the 328's engine does not need to be removed for a timing belt service, significantly lowering maintenance costs.
  • The GTS (Spider) outsold the fixed-roof GTB (Berlinetta) by nearly five to one, making the coupe much rarer today.
