About the AMC Eagle SX/4
The AMC Eagle SX/4 was a pioneering 'sport crossover' that predated the modern SUV craze by decades. Based on the compact AMC Spirit liftback, it featured a raised ride height, black plastic fender flares, and a sophisticated full-time four-wheel-drive system developed with Jeep technology. While the base four-cylinder was underpowered, the 4.2-litre straight-six provided the necessary torque for its all-terrain ambitions. It remains a cult classic for its quirky design and genuine ability to handle snow and light off-roading where contemporary sports cars would fail.
