About the AMC Rebel The Machine
The Rebel 'The Machine' was AMC's boldest entry into the muscle car market, developed in collaboration with Hurst Performance. It featured the most powerful engine in the company's history: a 390 cubic-inch V8 breathing through a functional ram-air hood scoop. While the first 1,000 units wore the iconic red, white, and blue livery, later cars were available in solid colours with a black hood. It was engineered for the drag strip with heavy-duty suspension and a Hurst-shifted T-10 gearbox, yet it offered surprisingly balanced handling for its era. Today, it is a highly prized alternative to the more common offerings from Detroit's Big Three.
