About the AMC SC/Rambler
The 1969 AMC SC/Rambler, often called the 'Scrambler', was a collaboration between American Motors and Hurst Performance designed for NHRA F/Stock drag racing. By stuffing the AMX's 390 cubic-inch V8 into the lightweight Rambler Rogue body, AMC created a budget muscle car with a power-to-weight ratio that humbled many larger rivals. It is instantly recognisable by its 'A-scheme' or 'B-scheme' patriotic paint, a massive functional hood scoop with a vacuum-operated flap, and blue-painted wheels. While it lacked cornering finesse due to its heavy nose and slow steering, its straight-line performance remains legendary among muscle car collectors.

AMC SC/Rambler fun facts
- The functional hood scoop featured a vacuum-operated flap that opened under full throttle to feed cold air directly into the four-barrel carburetor.
- AMC initially planned to build only 500 units for homologation, but high demand led to a total production run of 1,512 cars.
- Every SC/Rambler came with a factory-installed Sun tachometer strapped to the steering column, which often partially blocked the speedometer.
