About the AMC Javelin
For 1971, AMC reimagined the AMX as the top-tier performance variant of the second-generation Javelin, featuring a radical 'hump-fender' design penned by Dick Teague. The 401 cubic-inch V8 was the largest engine ever offered in an AMC pony car, delivering massive torque that made it a formidable street machine despite the looming end of the muscle car era. Its racing pedigree was cemented by Mark Donohue and Penske Racing, who dominated the SCCA Trans-Am series in this body style. Collectors prize the 1971 model for its high-compression engine and unique cockpit-style dashboard, which was one of the most driver-centric interiors of the period.
