About the Alfa Romeo Spider 916
The Phase 3 facelift of the 916-generation Spider, introduced in 2003, is instantly recognisable by its deep, Scudetto-style grille inspired by the Alfa 147. This trim replaced the long-running Twin Spark with the 2.0-litre JTS (Jet Thrust Stoichiometric) engine, Alfa's first direct-injection petrol unit, offering improved torque and efficiency. While the front-wheel-drive layout was a departure from its predecessor, the 916 remains celebrated for its sharp steering and sophisticated multi-link rear suspension. As one of the final iterations of the model, the JTS combines modernised styling with the classic Pininfarina wedge silhouette.

Alfa Romeo Spider 916 fun facts
- The 2.0 JTS engine was Alfa Romeo's first petrol engine to feature direct injection, allowing it to run with a leaner fuel-air mixture for better efficiency.
- The Phase 3 facelift was designed by Pininfarina itself, whereas the original 916 interior was an in-house Alfa Romeo design.
- The 916 Spider's bonnet is made of a composite material called KVR (a mix of polyester and glass fibre) to save weight and allow for its complex, integrated headlight cutouts.
