About the Acura MDX YD2
The second-generation Acura MDX (YD2) marked a significant shift towards performance, featuring a chassis tuned at the Nürburgring and the debut of the Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system. Its 3.7-litre V6 was the most powerful engine in Acura's history at launch, delivering 300 hp through a sophisticated torque-vectoring system that could over-drive the outside rear wheel to sharpen cornering. While it retained the practical three-row layout of its predecessor, the YD2 was wider and longer, adopting a more aggressive 'shield' grille design. It remains a benchmark for how a large crossover can offer engaging driving dynamics without sacrificing everyday utility.
