About the Lincoln Aviator
Introduced for the 2003 model year, the first-generation Lincoln Aviator was a premium mid-size SUV designed to bridge the gap between the Ford Explorer and the full-size Navigator. While it shared a platform with the Explorer, it featured a bespoke interior, ZF Servotronic steering, and a more sophisticated 32-valve DOHC V8 engine that actually produced more horsepower than the Navigator's larger 5.4-litre unit. Despite its high performance and luxury appointments, it struggled to find a market between its siblings and was discontinued after only three model years. Today, it is noted for its surprisingly agile handling and 'mini-Navigator' styling, though it remains a rare sight on the road.
