About the Wolseley Six ADO17
The Wolseley Six was the final and most luxurious evolution of Alec Issigonis's ADO17 'Landcrab' platform. Launched in 1972, it featured a 2.2-litre E-Series straight-six engine mounted transversely—a rare engineering feat for the era—providing a level of refinement the four-cylinder models lacked. While its unconventional proportions and 'bus-like' steering position limited its showroom appeal, the car offered class-leading rear legroom and exceptional torsional rigidity. Today, it is prized by British classic enthusiasts for its smooth ride, illuminated grille badge, and walnut-veneered interior.
