About the Vauxhall Magnum
Launched in 1973, the Vauxhall Magnum was a premium rebrand of the Viva HC, designed to bridge the gap between the entry-level Viva and the larger Victor. It was distinguished by its quad-headlamp front end, Rostyle wheels, and a more luxurious interior featuring a seven-dial instrument cluster in the 2300 models. The 2.3-litre 'slant-four' engine provided respectable performance for the era, though the car's handling remained typical of its Viva-based underpinnings. While it was eventually overshadowed by the Opel-derived Cavalier, the Magnum remains a cult classic representing the final era of Luton-designed Vauxhalls.

Vauxhall Magnum fun facts
- The 2.3-litre 'slant-four' engine used in the Magnum was famously canted at a 45-degree angle, a design choice originally intended to allow for a future V8 variant that never materialised.
- Despite its performance aspirations, the Magnum 2300 was heavily impacted by the 1973 oil crisis, leading to much lower sales than Vauxhall had originally anticipated.
- The Magnum's quad-headlamp grille was borrowed directly from the Firenza, helping to give the car a more aggressive and upmarket road presence than the standard Viva.
