About the Plymouth Belvedere
For 1954, the Belvedere was promoted from a trim level to Plymouth's flagship standalone model, replacing the Cranbrook. It featured a slightly lengthened body and distinctive chrome tailfins, marking a transition toward the space-age styling that would define the late 1950s. While competitors were moving toward V8 engines, the 1954 Belvedere relied on the reliable 'PowerFlow' flathead six, which was enlarged mid-year to 230 cubic inches. It is remembered as a solid, comfortable cruiser that introduced the fully automatic PowerFlite transmission to the Plymouth range.
