About the Wolseley 1500
Introduced in 1957, the Wolseley 1500 was originally conceived as a replacement for the Morris Minor before BMC decided to market it as a more upmarket, standalone model. It utilised the Minor's floorpan and rack-and-pinion steering but featured a larger 1.5-litre B-series engine and a more refined interior with walnut veneers and leather upholstery. While the mechanically similar Riley 1.5 was tuned for performance, the Wolseley was geared for relaxed cruising, featuring a high final drive ratio that allowed for comfortable 60 mph travel. Its combination of compact dimensions and premium appointments made it a significant success, becoming the best-selling Wolseley model ever produced.

Wolseley 1500 fun facts
- The Wolseley 1500 features a traditional illuminated radiator badge, a signature styling cue that glowed at night.
- Because it used a high 3.7:1 rear axle ratio, contemporary testers noted it felt like it had 'seven-league boots' for high-speed cruising compared to other small cars of the era.
- Though intended for the UK, the design was also produced in Australia where it was sold as the Morris Major and Austin Lancer.
