About the GAZ M20 Pobeda

The GAZ-M20 Pobeda (Victory) was a landmark of Soviet engineering, developed during the height of WWII and entering production in 1946. It was one of the first mass-produced cars globally to feature a 'ponton' body style with integrated wings and slab sides, predating many Western designs. Powered by a rugged 2.1-litre flathead four-cylinder engine derived from a Dodge design, it was built to withstand the harsh road conditions of the USSR. While early units suffered from quality issues due to post-war material shortages, the Pobeda became a symbol of national recovery and a common sight as both a private car and a taxi. Today, it is a highly prized collector's item in Eastern Europe and beyond for its historical significance and distinctive fastback silhouette.
