About the Volkswagen Gol Mk2

The second-generation Volkswagen Gol, known internally as Project AB9, debuted in 1994 with a rounded body that earned it the nickname 'Gol Bolinha'. Unlike the contemporary European Polo, the Gol utilized a longitudinal engine layout, a legacy of its platform's distant relation to the Audi 80. It was designed specifically for the South American market, prioritising ruggedness and ease of maintenance over refinement. The 1.6-litre version provided a balance of economy and sufficient torque for Brazil's varied terrain, cementing the model's status as a national sales leader.
