About the Triumph Vitesse
Introduced in 1966, the Vitesse 2-litre upgraded the original 1.6-litre model with the smooth straight-six engine from the Triumph 2000 saloon. Styled by Giovanni Michelotti, it retained the distinctive 'slant-eyed' quad-headlamp front end and separate chassis construction of the Herald. While the 2-litre engine provided a significant performance boost, the early cars retained the swing-axle rear suspension, leading to lively handling that was later addressed in the Mk II. Today, it is prized by collectors for its characterful engine note and the rarity of a small four-seater with a six-cylinder heart.
