About the Tatra 77
The Tatra 77 is a landmark of automotive engineering, being the first production car designed with a primary focus on aerodynamics. Developed by Hans Ledwinka and Paul Jaray, it features a rear-mounted air-cooled V8 and a distinctive dorsal fin for high-speed stability. Its slippery shape allowed it to reach speeds of 90 mph with just 60 horsepower, a feat that stunned the industry in 1934. Today, it is a highly coveted collector's item, with only a handful of restored examples known to exist.

Tatra 77 rarity in CarSpot
The Tatra 77 is a Unicorn card in CarSpot, with a rarity score of 100 out of 100. The rarest tier: hypercars, one-offs and cars built in tiny numbers, typically fewer than about 500. A Unicorn card is worth 320 XP.
Each model's tier starts from a 0–100 score based on its value plus its power or production numbers. Once enough players have spotted a model, how often it is spotted can move it up or down one tier. How CarSpot rarity works
Rarity is a collectible game mechanic, not an assessment of real-world scarcity or value.
Tatra 77 fun facts
- The Tatra 77's aerodynamic design was so advanced that it achieved a drag coefficient of approximately 0.36, comparable to many modern sports cars.
- Ferdinand Porsche reportedly admitted to 'looking over Ledwinka's shoulder' when designing the Volkswagen Beetle, leading to a post-war legal settlement.
- The car's engine and transmission made extensive use of 'Elektron', a lightweight magnesium-aluminum alloy that was revolutionary for the 1930s.
