About the SsangYong Actyon
Launched in 2005, the SsangYong Actyon was a radical departure from traditional SUV design, featuring a sloped roofline that predated the BMW X6 by several years. Its styling, penned by Ken Greenley, was highly controversial, combining a shark-like front fascia with a truncated rear. Underneath the bodywork, it utilised a rugged ladder-frame chassis and a Mercedes-Benz-derived 2.0-litre common-rail diesel engine. While it offered genuine off-road capability thanks to a low-range transfer case, its on-road manners and interior quality struggled to compete with more refined European and Japanese rivals. Today, it is remembered primarily for its unique aesthetic and as a precursor to the modern 'SUV-coupé' trend.
