About the Skoda 110 Type 717
The Škoda 110 L (Type 717) was the more powerful 1.1-litre variant of the 100-series, succeeding the 1000 MB. It retained the traditional rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout that was becoming increasingly rare in Western Europe by the mid-1970s. Known for its simple mechanicals and surprisingly comfortable independent suspension, it was a robust family car designed for the challenging roads of the Eastern Bloc. While performance was modest, the 110 L offered improved safety features over its predecessor, including front disc brakes, and served as the basis for the iconic 110 R coupé.
