About the Mazda 1000
The Mazda 1000 was the export designation for the second-generation Familia (Series 0810), featuring styling by the Italian design house Bertone. It was powered by the PC-series overhead-cam engine, which was noted for its smooth revving and reliability compared to contemporary rivals. While the rotary-powered versions gained more fame, the 1000 was the high-volume backbone of Mazda's international expansion in the late 1960s. Today, it is a rare survivor, appreciated by Japanese classic enthusiasts for its clean lines and simple, robust mechanicals.
