About the Shelby Series 1
The Shelby Series 1 was the first and only car designed and engineered entirely by Carroll Shelby from a blank sheet of paper. Unlike his previous projects, which modified existing chassis, the Series 1 featured a bespoke 6061 aluminum monocoque with carbon fibre and fiberglass bodywork. It is powered by a modified Oldsmobile Aurora V8, mounted behind the front axle for a near-perfect 49/51 weight distribution. Despite its advanced engineering and racing-derived suspension, production was plagued by financial difficulties and regulatory hurdles, resulting in a limited run that remains a unique chapter in American supercar history.

Shelby Series 1 rarity in CarSpot
The Shelby Series 1 is a Unicorn card in CarSpot, with a rarity score of 100 out of 100. The rarest tier: hypercars, one-offs and cars built in tiny numbers, typically fewer than about 500. A Unicorn card is worth 320 XP.
Each model's tier starts from a 0–100 score based on its value plus its power or production numbers. Once enough players have spotted a model, how often it is spotted can move it up or down one tier. How CarSpot rarity works
Rarity is a collectible game mechanic, not an assessment of real-world scarcity or value.
Shelby Series 1 fun facts
- The Series 1 used a Pontiac instrument cluster and a Buick radio to save on development costs for its interior.
- Because it failed to meet updated federal safety standards after 1999, later cars had to be sold as 'component cars' without engines.
- The chassis was so rigid that it was reportedly twice as stiff as the contemporary C5 Corvette.
