About the Shelby GT350
The 1965 Shelby GT350 was the first collaboration between Ford and Carroll Shelby, designed specifically to homologate the Mustang for SCCA B Production racing. Unlike later, more comfortable iterations, the 1965 model was a uncompromising performance machine featuring a high-output 'K-Code' 289 cubic-inch V8, side-exit exhausts, and a fiberglass hood. To save weight and meet racing regulations, the rear seats were removed and replaced with a shelf for the spare tyre. Its stiff suspension, featuring Koni adjustable shocks and traction bars, made it a formidable competitor that dominated its class on the track.

Shelby GT350 fun facts
- Every 1965 GT350 was finished in Wimbledon White with Guardsman Blue rocker stripes; the famous 'Le Mans' top stripes were actually a dealer-installed option.
- Early 1965 models had the battery relocated to the boot to improve weight distribution, but this was moved back to the engine bay in later cars due to complaints about fumes.
- The 1965 GT350 is often called the 'Cobra-Mustang' because it used many parts from Shelby's Cobra program, including the high-rise intake manifold and valve covers.
