About the Shelby GLHS

The Shelby GLHS was the final evolution of the Dodge Omni, transformed by Carroll Shelby at his Whittier facility. By adding an intercooler, larger fuel injectors, and a revised intake to the 2.2-litre Turbo I engine, Shelby boosted output to 175 hp—a massive figure for a 1,150 kg hatchback in 1986. It featured adjustable Koni dampers and 15-inch Centurion wheels, delivering handling that matched its straight-line speed. Only 500 were produced, all finished in black, and each is identified by a numbered dash plaque.

Shelby GLHS rarity in CarSpot

The Shelby GLHS is a Unicorn card in CarSpot, with a rarity score of 100 out of 100. The rarest tier: hypercars, one-offs and cars built in tiny numbers, typically fewer than about 500. A Unicorn card is worth 320 XP.

Each model's tier starts from a 0–100 score based on its value plus its power or production numbers. Once enough players have spotted a model, how often it is spotted can move it up or down one tier. How CarSpot rarity works

Rarity is a collectible game mechanic, not an assessment of real-world scarcity or value.

Shelby GLHS fun facts

  • The GLHS acronym officially stands for 'Goes Like Hell S'more', a playful nod to the preceding Dodge Omni GLH.
  • Because the 85 mph federal speedometer limit was still in effect, Shelby added a decal that extended the scale to 135 mph.
  • Carroll Shelby famously claimed the GLHS was one of his favourite cars, as it could outrun a contemporary Mustang or Camaro for a fraction of the price.
