About the Renault Clio Mk1
The first-generation Renault Clio was launched in 1990 as a more sophisticated successor to the long-running Renault 5. The 1.2 RN was a core mid-range trim, offering a balance of economy and improved interior comfort that helped the Clio win European Car of the Year in 1991. While not a performance model, its light weight and compliant suspension provided the nimble, 'tossable' handling characteristic of French hatchbacks of the era. Today, early Mk1 Clios are becoming increasingly rare, with survivors valued for their clean design and nostalgic appeal.
