About the Proton Gen-2
The Proton Gen-2 was the first model to be designed and developed in-house by the Malaysian manufacturer, replacing the Wira. It famously featured handling input from Lotus, which Proton owned at the time, resulting in a chassis that was often praised for its agility despite mediocre interior quality. It also marked the debut of the CamPro engine, developed in collaboration with Lotus to provide a more modern powertrain for the brand. While it offered a distinctive 'aeroback' silhouette, it struggled in European markets against more refined competitors.
