About the Citroën C4 Mk1

The first-generation Citroën C4 was a radical departure from the conservative Xsara it replaced, featuring a distinctive 'semi-high' profile and a futuristic interior. Its most famous innovation was the fixed-hub steering wheel, where the central controls remained stationary while the rim rotated. The 1.6-litre HDi diesel engine was a staple of the PSA-Ford partnership, offering strong mid-range torque and excellent fuel economy for the era. While it lacked the sharp handling of a Ford Focus, it prioritised ride comfort and quirky French design, including a translucent digital instrument cluster that adjusted to ambient light.
