About the Porsche 911 GT3 996
The 996.1 GT3 was the first road-going 911 to bear the GT3 badge, serving as a homologation special for the FIA GT3 class. It features the legendary 'Mezger' flat-six, a motorsport-derived unit with a dry-sump oiling system and titanium connecting rods, distinct from the standard 996 Carrera engine. Stripped of rear seats and sound deadening, it was the first production car to lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife in under eight minutes. Never officially sold in North America, it is now highly prized by collectors for its raw, mechanical feedback and historical significance as the start of Porsche's modern GT era.
