About the Porsche 911 Carrera RS 964
The 964 Carrera RS was a homologation special that revived the legendary Rennsport name for the 1990s. Based on the Carrera Cup racer, it featured a seam-welded chassis, an aluminium bonnet, and thinner glass to save roughly 155kg over the standard Carrera 2. The M64/03 engine was blueprinted and paired with a lightweight single-mass flywheel, providing a rev-happy character and immediate throttle response. It remains one of the most sought-after air-cooled Porsches for its uncompromising, analogue connection between driver and road.

Porsche 911 Carrera RS 964 fun facts
- The RS was never officially sold in the United States due to homologation costs, leading Porsche to create the softer 'RS America' as a consolation for the US market.
- Weight saving was so extreme that the car lacked power steering, air conditioning, rear seats, and even sound deadening, using simple fabric pull straps instead of door handles.
- The 17-inch 'Cup' wheels were made from lightweight magnesium rather than the standard aluminium alloy to further reduce unsprung weight.
