About the Plymouth GTX
Redesigned for 1968 with a sleek 'coke-bottle' profile, the Plymouth GTX was positioned as the upscale alternative to the budget-focused Road Runner. While it shared the B-body platform, the GTX came standard with the 440 cubic-inch Super Commando V8 and a heavy-duty TorqueFlite transmission, offering effortless low-end torque. The interior was significantly more refined than its stablemates, featuring Sport Satellite trim, bucket seats, and woodgrain accents. As a 'gentleman's muscle car,' it balanced brutal straight-line performance with a level of comfort that made it a formidable grand tourer of the era.
