About the Plymouth Duster
Introduced as a performance-oriented fastback variant of the humble Valiant, the Duster 340 became a cult classic by offering a superior power-to-weight ratio compared to many heavier big-block muscle cars. The 1971 model is particularly prized for its 'shark-tooth' grille and is the final year for the high-compression 340 cubic-inch V8 before emissions regulations forced a drop in output. It was marketed as a budget-friendly 'Rapid Transit System' entry, providing genuine quarter-mile pace for a fraction of the cost of a Hemi 'Cuda. Collectors value its mechanical simplicity, high-revving small-block character, and its status as one of the most effective 'sleeper' muscle cars of the era.
