About the Peugeot Type 69
The Peugeot Type 69, affectionately known as the Bébé, was a landmark in early automotive history as one of the first successful 'voiturettes'. Introduced at the 1904 Paris Motor Show, it was designed to be affordable, simple, and robust, featuring advanced technology for its time like rack-and-pinion steering and a driveshaft instead of a chain. Its single-cylinder engine and lightweight 350kg chassis made it remarkably efficient, accounting for 80% of Peugeot's production in its first year. While often overshadowed by the later Bugatti-designed Type BP1, the Type 69 remains the original 'Baby' Peugeot and a vital piece of the brand's heritage.
