About the Peugeot 205 Rallye
The 205 Rallye was conceived by Peugeot Talbot Sport as a budget-friendly homologation special for Group N and Group A rallying, specifically targeting the sub-1300cc class. It achieved its featherweight sub-800kg mass by removing soundproofing, speakers, and even the passenger-side wing mirror, while featuring a high-revving TU24 engine equipped with twin Weber carburetors. Unlike the more refined GTI, the Rallye offers a raw, visceral driving experience characterized by its stiff suspension and distinctive white steel wheels. It is now highly prized by collectors for its purity and its status as one of the most focused front-wheel-drive cars ever produced.

Peugeot 205 Rallye fun facts
- The 1.3-litre engine was specifically chosen to fit into the under-1300cc competition class, utilizing the cylinder head from the larger 1.9 GTI.
- To save weight and cost, the car was famously sold without a radio, sound deadening, or central locking, and featured minimal interior trim.
- While the standard 205 Rallye was white, a small number of 'Zest' editions were produced in other colours for specific markets like the UK, though these often lacked the Weber carbs.
