About the Lancia Fulvia

The Lancia Fulvia Coupé is renowned for its sophisticated engineering, most notably its narrow-angle V4 engine which allows for a single cylinder head. The Series 2 1.3 S, introduced in 1970, brought a five-speed gearbox and improved Girling disc brakes to the elegant Piero Castagnero design. Despite its front-wheel-drive layout, the Fulvia earned a reputation for superb balance and precision, forming the basis for Lancia's 1972 International Rally Championship victory. It remains a favourite among collectors for its mechanical jewel-like quality and airy, visibility-focused cabin.

Lancia Fulvia fun facts

  • The V4 engine has a bank angle of just 12 degrees and 53 minutes, allowing both banks of cylinders to share a single overhead camshaft housing.
  • Unlike most front-wheel-drive cars of the era, the Fulvia's engine is mounted ahead of the front axle at a 45-degree slant to lower the centre of gravity.
  • The Series 2 1.3 S is often distinguished by its 'Fulvia 3' badging in later production years, featuring matte black trim instead of chrome.
