About the Peugeot 204
Launched in 1965, the Peugeot 204 was a landmark model for the Sochaux brand, being its first front-wheel-drive production car. Designed by Pininfarina, it featured a space-efficient transverse engine layout with the gearbox located directly beneath the block, a configuration that allowed for an interior as spacious as the larger 404. It was also the first Peugeot to feature front disc brakes, contributing to its reputation for excellent handling and safety. The 204 was a massive commercial success, holding the title of France's best-selling car for three consecutive years from 1969 to 1971.
