About the Opel Admiral A
The Opel Admiral A was the mid-range offering of the 'KAD' (Kapitän, Admiral, Diplomat) series, designed to compete with Mercedes-Benz and BMW in the executive sector. Introduced in 1964, it featured distinctively American-influenced styling, reflecting Opel's ownership by General Motors. The 2.8-litre 'CIH' (cam-in-head) engine arrived in late 1965, replacing the older 2.6-litre unit to provide better performance for the heavy saloon. While technically competent with a smooth ride and spacious interior, it struggled to match the prestige of its domestic rivals, making well-preserved examples rare today.
