About the Oldsmobile 98
The 1985 Oldsmobile 98 marked a radical departure for the brand's flagship, downsizing significantly and adopting a front-wheel-drive C-body platform. Despite losing two feet in length and over 700 pounds compared to its predecessor, it maintained nearly identical interior volume thanks to clever packaging. The 3.8-litre Buick-sourced V6 featured multi-port fuel injection, offering a smoother and more efficient power delivery than the carburetted V8s of old. While controversial among traditionalists at launch, its combination of a plush 'Regency' interior and improved handling made it a sales success, recording the model's best-ever sales year in 1985.
