About the Oldsmobile 98
The 1961 Oldsmobile 98 (Ninety-Eight) represented the seventh generation of the brand's flagship luxury model, built on the GM C-body platform shared with Cadillac. It featured a completely redesigned 'linear' styling with distinctive rear fins and a shorter wheelbase than the 1960 model, though it remained the largest Oldsmobile available. Under the bonnet sat the 394 cubic-inch 'Skyrocket' V8, delivering effortless torque through the new, lighter Roto Hydramatic transmission. As a premium offering, it came standard with power steering, power brakes, and an electric clock, positioning it just below Cadillac in the General Motors hierarchy.
