About the Oldsmobile 88
The 1954 Oldsmobile 88 marked the arrival of the second generation, introducing a longer, lower body and the iconic 'panoramic' wrap-around windshield. At its heart was the legendary 324 cubic-inch Rocket V8, an engine so potent for its era that the 88 is often cited as a precursor to the American muscle car. While the Super 88 offered more power, the base 88 provided a balanced blend of GM's B-body agility and high-compression torque. Its durable construction and smooth Hydra-Matic transmission made it a favourite for long-distance cruising and a dominant force in early NASCAR racing.
