About the Oldsmobile 88
The 1986 model year marked a radical departure for the Oldsmobile 88, transitioning from a traditional rear-wheel-drive, body-on-frame layout to the front-wheel-drive H-body platform. Despite being nearly two feet shorter and significantly lighter than its predecessor, it maintained a spacious six-passenger interior and the signature 'pillowy' American ride quality. The 3.8-litre LG3 V6 was the preferred choice for buyers, offering better efficiency and smoother power delivery than the base 3.0-litre unit. Today, it is remembered as a durable, transitional cruiser that helped modernise General Motors' full-size fleet.
