About the Ford Ten
Introduced in 1934 as the Model C, the Ford Ten was a larger, more powerful companion to the popular 8hp Model Y. Its bulbous, streamlined styling was a scaled-down interpretation of the contemporary American Ford V8, earning it the nickname 'Barrel Ford' in the UK. The 1172cc side-valve engine proved exceptionally robust and became a staple of the British 'specials' scene, eventually powering early Lotus racing cars. While its transverse leaf spring suspension was archaic even for the 1930s, its affordability and 70 mph capability made it a significant commercial success for Ford Dagenham.

Ford Ten fun facts
- The 'Ten' name refers to its British fiscal horsepower rating, a tax class based on engine bore diameter rather than actual output.
- The 1172cc side-valve engine was so successful it remained in production in various forms until 1962, famously used in the first Lotus, the Mark I.
- Early models are often called 'Barrel Fords' due to their rounded, bulbous bodywork which lacked the chrome trim found on later CX versions.
