About the Morris Minor Series I
Launched at the 1948 Earls Court Motor Show, the Morris Minor MM was a revolutionary design by Alec Issigonis that prioritised interior space and handling. While its 918cc side-valve engine was a pre-war carryover, the car featured advanced rack-and-pinion steering and independent torsion bar front suspension, making it a revelation to drive compared to its contemporaries. Early 'Lowlight' models are distinguished by headlamps mounted in the grille rather than the wings. It remains a cornerstone of the British classic car movement, valued for its charm, simplicity, and historical significance as the first British car to eventually sell over a million units.

Morris Minor Series I fun facts
- Designer Alec Issigonis famously had the prototype cut in half lengthways and widened by four inches just before production because he felt it looked too narrow.
- Early production bumpers featured a visible central joining plate because they had already been manufactured for the narrower prototype design.
- The 'Lowlight' headlamp position was moved to the wings in 1949 for US export models to meet local height regulations, a change adopted for all markets by 1951.
