About the MG Metro

Launched in 1982, the MG Metro 1300 was a crucial model for British Leyland, bringing the historic MG badge to a modern supermini platform. It featured a tuned version of the 1275cc A-Plus engine with a modified cylinder head and larger valves, delivering a significant performance boost over the standard Austin Metro. The car was distinguished by its red seatbelts, sporty graphics, and Hydragas suspension, which provided surprisingly nimble handling. Despite initial skepticism from MG purists, it became a sales success and is now a rare, sought-after classic due to high attrition rates and the tendency for its engines to be scavenged for Minis.
