About the Daihatsu Domino L70

The Daihatsu Domino was the UK-market name for the second-generation Mira (L70 series), a car designed to meet Japan's strict kei car regulations while offering a larger engine for export markets. While domestic models were restricted to 550cc, the export Domino 850 featured a larger 847cc three-cylinder engine that provided significantly more refinement and usable torque for European roads. It was praised for its clever packaging, featuring a surprisingly spacious interior and a rear seat that could fold completely flat to create a van-like cargo area. Today, it is an exceptionally rare sight in the UK, valued by collectors of 1980s Japanese 'weird and wonderful' machinery for its mechanical simplicity and honest character.
