About the MG Maestro
Launched in late 1984 to replace the troublesome twin-carburettor 1600, the MG Maestro 2.0 EFi utilised the O-Series engine with Lucas electronic fuel injection. It was significantly faster and more reliable than its predecessor, offering performance that could rival the contemporary Volkswagen Golf GTI. The model featured a Honda-sourced gearbox and a distinctive body kit with red bumper inserts, though it retained the practical five-door layout of the standard Maestro. While often overshadowed by its peers, it is now a rare and increasingly sought-after modern classic due to its surprisingly sharp handling and punchy power delivery.

MG Maestro fun facts
- Early MG Maestros were famous for their 'talking' dashboard, which used a synthesized female voice to provide warnings, though this was phased out for the 2.0 EFi.
- The 2.0 EFi engine was later used as the basis for the turbocharged version, which became one of the fastest accelerating front-wheel-drive cars of its era.
- Despite its performance, the MG Maestro 2.0 EFi was only ever available as a five-door hatchback, unlike many rivals that offered three-door variants.
