About the Mazda 929 LA2
The LA2-generation Mazda 929, known as the Luce in Japan, was a significant step upmarket for the Hiroshima-based manufacturer. Featuring styling influenced by Italian design house Bertone, it offered a more sophisticated alternative to contemporary Toyotas and Nissans. The 1.8-litre VB engine provided reliable, if modest, performance, while the chassis was praised for its comfortable ride and predictable rear-wheel-drive handling. Today, early 929s are rare survivors of the 1970s Japanese export boom, valued for their clean lines and robust mechanicals.
