About the Mazda 626 GC
The GC-generation Mazda 626 marked a significant shift for the nameplate, moving to a front-wheel-drive layout to better compete with the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. Known as the Capella in Japan, it was widely praised for its sophisticated suspension tuning and high build quality, winning the 1982-1983 Japan Car of the Year award. The 2.0-litre FE-series engine provided a smooth, torque-rich power delivery that suited its role as a refined family cruiser. While once common, the GC has become a rare sight on modern roads, now appreciated by collectors for its clean, aerodynamic 1980s styling and mechanical durability.
