About the Alfa Romeo Alfetta 116
The Alfetta was a technical landmark for Alfa Romeo, introducing a rear-mounted transaxle and De Dion rear suspension to achieve a near-perfect 50:50 weight distribution. Named after the legendary Tipo 158/159 'Alfetta' Grand Prix cars, it offered handling precision that few contemporary rivals could match. The 2.0-litre 'Nord' twin-cam engine provided the characteristic Alfa growl and rev-happy nature, though the complex transaxle linkage often resulted in a vague gear shift. While rust and electrical issues claimed many examples, survivors are now prized for their sophisticated chassis and pure 1970s Italian styling.
