About the Lotus Esprit X180
The Turbo SE (Special Equipment) was the definitive version of the Peter Stevens-styled 'X180' Esprit, introducing a water-to-air intercooler known as a 'chargecooler'. This allowed the 2.2-litre Type 910S engine to produce a sustained 264 hp, with a transient overboost function providing up to 280 hp for short bursts. Its performance figures famously rivalled contemporary Ferraris and Porsches at a significantly lower price point. The SE is distinguished by its deeper front air dam with five ducts, side skirts, and a prominent rear wing, marking the Esprit's transition into a true world-class supercar.
