About the Lotus Elan S1
The Lotus Elan S1 (Type 26) redefined the small sports car by pairing a lightweight fibreglass body with an innovative steel backbone chassis. Powered by the legendary Lotus-Ford Twin Cam engine, it offered a power-to-weight ratio that shamed much larger contemporary GTs. Its four-wheel independent suspension and disc brakes provided handling so precise it famously inspired the design of the original Mazda MX-5. As the purest expression of Colin Chapman’s 'simplify, then add lightness' philosophy, the S1 remains a highly coveted collector piece for its raw driving dynamics and historical significance.
