About the Lotus Elan M100

The M100 Elan was a radical departure for Lotus, featuring a front-wheel-drive layout and a turbocharged Isuzu-sourced engine. Despite the unconventional drivetrain, Lotus engineers achieved legendary handling through a patented 'Interactive Wishbone' front suspension and a rigid steel backbone chassis. The SE Turbo variant provided brisk performance and exceptional grip, though it faced stiff competition from the simpler, cheaper Mazda MX-5. Today, it is appreciated as a technically sophisticated and highly usable modern classic.
